Every child has something important to say, but sometimes they just can’t get the words out. Expressions is committed to helping your little one find his or her voice. A child’s best means of communication may be verbal speech or use of a communication device. Either way, we will help each child learn to communicate to the best of his or her ability.
Children who have special needs, communication disorders, and developmental delays often get overlooked or underestimated. The Bible says we are all “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14). This belief guides all that we do when working with our clients and their families.
ABOUT THE SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST
My name is Lauren Hughes and I am the owner of Expressions Center for Communication Disorders. If you know me at all, you probably know that I love children. Always have. That love led me to the field of Speech-Language Pathology. While in graduate school, I discovered exactly what I wanted to do with my life: work with children who have special needs.
I graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) in 2009 with a Masters in Speech Pathology. I moved to Birmingham, Alabama that same year. It didn’t take long for me to fall in love with the city.
In 2012, I became the Augmentative-Alternative Communication Specialist for a local school system. Over the past 6 years, I have developed a strong desire to ensure each child has access to their own voice. I also provide speech therapy services for children birth to 3-years-old under the Early Intervention Program. Working with these little ones and their families has been a privilege. Thank you for considering Expressions for your child’s speech therapy needs.
